Midland Appraisal Review Board Staff Numbers
Unlike most Texas counties, Midland’s protests are focused almost exclusively on businesses. These often make their way to the appraisal review board (ARB), with a growing number taking their struggle against the Midland Central Appraisal District (MCAD) all the way to district court. However, the ARB in Midland County is tiny, forcing taxpayers to wait for months to get their shot at a formal appeal. Be ready for your formal protest when you join O’Connor’s Property Tax Protection Program™ today and get your legal team built for you. Enroll, relax, and save.

With over 50 years of experience taking on Texas appraisal districts, O’Connor knows the evidence needed to get the win in administrative appeals and in lawsuits. ARB Members
There have only been 13 members serving in the ARB since 2021. Since every board has three members, this means there were four boards and one alternate member. 11 of the members had previously served, while two were new. There has been very little turnover in the past decade. Most of these members are experts in the fields of appraisal and taxes, with their service being seen as an asset to the community.

Texas property owners should protest annually To avoid a surprise-increase in property taxes. This happens when the notice of value was lost. A large error in a home value is difficult to fix if not corrected through the normal appeal process.
Days with a Hearing
It should not be surprising that the stagnant roster has led to more days with a hearing. The ARB is required to meet until every single case has been heard. In 2024, 74 days had a hearing, the most ever. In 2014, there were only 25 days that saw the board meet. This sharp increase indicates that the pool of members is no longer adequate to the task, and should be expanded to help relieve the pressure. Formal appeals will only continue to increase as value, and taxes keep rising across Midland County.

ARB Compensation
The total budget set aside for the board in 2024 was $191,500. While most members serve to help their community, they are still paid a per diem to compensate them for the time. Most counties will pay their members an array of per diems, mostly based on seniority. Midland does not follow this pattern, however, and each member received a daily pay of $165, without regard to experience or tenure.
