Midland Central Appraisal District - Total Value of Parcels

While it may not have the largest population in Texas, Midland County is still a large area of land, and encompassed 420,000 parcels as of 2024. As one of the most expansive counties in Texas, the Midland Central Appraisal District  (MCAD) has to work overdrive to appraise every piece of land, often making mistakes in the process. These incorrect values and inaccurate information need to be corrected with property tax protests. Get the best out of your appeal when you join O’Connor’s Property Tax Protection Program™ today and get your legal team built for you. Enroll, relax, and save.

MCAD Tax Parcels

Parcels bundle together all real estate and real property into chunks that can be assessed by MCAD and taxed by dozens of taxing bodies. In many ways, these are the building blocks of how Texas funds its government, as there is no income tax to bring in money for things like school districts or MUDs. The emphasis on real estate gives Texas some of the highest property taxes in the nation.

These values and taxes can be lowered with property tax appeals. Get the best out of your protest when you sign up with O’Connor. MCAD Total Number of Parcels in District

Midland County was made up of 420,000 parcels, ranging from homes and farms to oil and gas production. When put together, these parcels totaled over $56.73 billion in value, mostly thanks to petroleum companies. However, MCAD proved itself to not be up to the task of handling this large area, and only 270,700 parcels were assessed in 2024. This means that all of the values given to taxpayers should be taken with a grain of salt. The only way to ensure that they are accurate is for taxpayers to utilize property tax appeals.

Total Market Value for All Property

Midland County is the stereotypical Texas oil community, and this has shaped the county since the early days. In 2024, $33.78 billion in property value was thanks to petroleum production alone, making up more than half of the county’s $56.73 billion total. This is rare for Texas, as usually the top spot on the value chart is taken up by single family homes.

Homes were responsible for $15.48 billion of the remaining value, a number that has largely remained stagnant for the past decade. Commercial properties added $7.72 billion, while apartments accounted for $207.70 million. Oil and gas are the only property type that consistently shifts, thanks to the infamously up-and-down market.
